Comcast Cares Day 2015
On Saturday morning April 25th, Comcast sponsored a volunteer day at the Buena farm. Volunteers descended on the farm to build a vertical garden designed to teach people how to grow in small spaces. With 154 volunteers and nearly 1,000 volunteer hours invested in one day, we were able to accomplish the entire project. We built trellises' for the watermelon and cucumbers, a bean tepee, as well as strawberry and potato towers. The center piece is a gutter garden which currently houses beets, kale, onions, and collard greens. With this new garden we will be able to teach our volunteers and recipients how to grow produce virtually anywhere they have a little space. The vertical garden will also serve as our experimental garden as we try growing new varieties of produce.
Comcast Cares Day 2016, Saturday April 30th
On Saturday April 30th starting at 8am we will be hosting our 2nd annual Comcast Cares Day event. We will be building a complete above ground vertical garden to grow all of our tomato plants for the season as well as plant crops in the fields. Just like last year we will have Breakfast and Lunch provided.
We have also set a 2nd location at the Martin Luther King Center in Buena were we will be building a complete vertical Garden to help sustain fresh produce for their food bank Both of these projects will be going on at the same time so you can choose which location works best for you.
